Paving the Way: CCA's Journey into Local 12 Operating Engineers Apprenticeship
Updated: Jan 22
Peace CCA Family!
I'm buzzing with excitement to announce our upcoming focus on preparing our brilliant students for the Local 12 Operating Engineers Apprenticeship Program. As a pre-apprenticeship program, we're dedicated to equipping our students with the necessary skills and knowledge to ace the entry exam and thrive in this dynamic field.
As apprentices, students can expect to start earning competitive wages, with an apprentice's starting wage being a percentage of the journeyman rate. This ensures a fair and rewarding progression as skills and experience grow. By the time they reach the journeyman level, the wage increases significantly, reflecting the expertise and responsibility carried in this vital role.
Our partnership and mission at JTM Academy and the Los Angeles Urban League goes beyond teaching; we're fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the construction industry. We're committed to breaking barriers and opening doors for talents from all walks of life, ensuring they have a fair chance to contribute to and benefit from this booming sector.
Though our current classes are full, the doors for our next cohort, starting in September, will soon open. (Pre-register here: www.laul.org/cca)
This is a call for those who dream of a career that doesn't just earn them a living but also plays a pivotal role in transforming California's landscape. This list of job classifications comes directly from their website, but I’ll make an attempt to break down what each position does in a future blog.
Local 12 offers incredible opportunities, from operating heavy machinery to contributing to major infrastructure projects. It's not just a job; it's a career that shapes our state's future. The apprenticeship program opens up their applications on February 20, 2024 at 7:00am and closes on March 1, 2024 at 3:30pm.
Stay tuned, stay inspired, and get ready to be part of this transformative journey!
